In my job, I’ve helped a lot of people quit smoking. And I’ve heard a lot of reasons why smoking is a good thing.
I’ve been told smoking sharpens your mind, relaxes you, calms you, keeps you from yelling at the kids (or spouse), tastes good with coffee, tastes better after a meal. In short, makes you feel “better”. (I always ask “better than what”?)
You don’t believe these reasons. Not really. If you did, you wouldn’t also want to quit smoking. Right? Actually you CAN have it both ways. You can believe your reasons to smoke at the same time you don’t believe them. It is the difference between ‘knowing’ something and ‘feeling’ something.
The obvious and overlooked part is you must have a strong reason to continue smoking or you would have already stopped. By the way, there is no law that says your reason to keep smoking has to make any logical sense. It rarely does.
You’ve probably already proven your reasons untrue. Smoking might taste better with coffee because the coffee taste on your tongue covers the bad taste of smoking???

When people are tired, sad, lonely or even happy, they turn to comfort food. Everyone has their own personal, favorite comfort food. For me, it is Jack in the Box tacos. If you actually ate this food as an adult, you would never eat it again! But for some strange reason, you are still drawn to the food, it seems completely illogical.
The logic is simple, you have an emotional attachment to the food you are craving. I can justify eating it because I think it will make me feel happy, content or calm, I am guessing you feel the same way. You may know it is not good for you, but subconsciously you think it will. After a while you start to believe the food will make you feel better and because our mind believes this, you do feel better, but the effect is not long lasting.
After a few bites, guilt kicks in. However this doesn’t stop me from finishing my first taco, or even my second. I know you know this feeling and it can be frustrating. I know I should not be eating this greasy, oddly textures taco but at the same time I really feel like eating it! I like you have the craving, desire, longing, and urge to devour that taco!

You know you can think of happy memories and feel the happy emotion, if you let yourself. Just like you can think of a scary or sad memory and feel that emotion.
There is a definite connection between what our memories have stored and how we generally feel. If there is very strong emotion associated with a memory, a person may tend to feel that emotion in some way, constantly, below the surface.
Memories with traumatic emotions can cause disorders like post-traumatic stress and depression. They can also cause other disruptions in your life like problems with anger, fears, and stress.
The most popular way to deal with these sorts of problems is prescription medication. But, medication only tries to help the ’symptoms’ instead of treating the ’cause’. Long term results are usually just long term symptom management.
The key to long term help with these issues would appear to be the emotional association with the memory. What would happen if that association could be erased, reduced or even changed?
There is research using a medication called propranolol that can be used as an “amnesia drug”. The purpose is to directly disrupt the connection between our memories and the emotions they are associated with.

Diet and weight is everywhere. It is at the grocery store, in magazines, and sometimes right in your back yard as a fast food restaurant. Our society constantly obsesses over weight, food choices and exercise, so why then is America so overweight? The answer is simple, losing weight is hard. People are over weight for many reasons, portion control, food choices, lack of motivation for exercise, or emotional attachments to food. There is help out there for anyone who wants it.
Portions are difficult to understand for many people. The average person doesn’t know what a proper serving size is for food items in general, so we guess, often that guess is wrong. Think about this, one package of Ramen actually contains two servings. Who would think you could actually get two servings out of that little bag! Understanding and controlling your portions is one of the most important things you will learn while losing weight.

Half of Oregon’s population is trying to lose weight. In Oregon alone 66.4% of males and 62.8% of females are overweight. Obviously you are not alone in the quest to lose weight. It is time to consider your weight loss options.
Some people crave certain foods, and sometimes those foods are bad for you. You know what you like to eat and you know not all of it is good. You know what challenges you face on a daily basis with your eating habits. Often people have emotional and confidence associations with food, it is time for that to be changed.
Hypnosis can help you to make better choices with your food. A quality session works to remove cravings or emotional associations from your mind. When the session is complete you no longer fight against a craving for certain foods, but rather make a choice between what you want and what you need, what a great feeling that can be.
Anyone with a weight problem has some problem areas. Areas that if they had true control of, they would not have a weight problem. When you now longer fight with yourself for control, you have success.
