It’s an unavoidable fact that if left untended, for every flower and plant that adorns our gardens, a greater number of pests will also take root. The good news is that removing these scoundrels from infesting your vegetation does not need to rely on chemicals, nor should it. For each individual species of pest that shows up in your garden abode, there is a natural solution that is cheaper and most importantly, safer to use than pesticides.
Shockingly, North Americans use upwards of 130 million pounds of pesticide each year, both in their gardens and in their homes. This dwarfs the amount used by farmers by almost three times, and accounts for a high percentage of wildlife pest poisonings and contamination of surface water from pesticide use.
Cutting back on this problem requires educating gardeners and homeowners everywhere. Taking the initiative by spreading the word yourself can only help, and the best way to do that is to lead by example, and keep your own home pesticide free.
The following tips will help you keep your garden healthy and pest free without resorting to harmful pesticide use.

When you buy a lot and build a house, you are moving into the natural territory of animals. Some of them will leave, some will stay but be harmless, and some, like ants, insects, and the gopher and mole, can be pests. The following information will explain why these pests are attracted to your lawn and what you can do to keep them from residing there full time.
Pests will most likely not create a major problem in your lawn, but they can still be annoying and cause some minor damage. Insects, even if you can’t see them, may be killing sections of your lawn. You can see this by finding brown patches of grass. It is easy to know when gophers and moles are in your lawn. They form holes and hills of dirt to create their tunnels. But how do you get rid of the pests once you know you have them?
First, you can call an expert to help. For a fee, there are professionals to help. If you want to avoid the fee and do it yourself, you can do that instead. It will take proper identification of the problem to be able to deal with it correctly.

You may be surprised to know how much we can use nature to help with little problems that can occur. You can cultivate certain plants in your garden to help with these things.
For example, if mosquitoes are a problem for you, there are certain plants that naturally repel insects. Not only will having these plants make you more comfortable, they will also keep other pests away from your garden that could harm other flowers and bushes. It is always healthier to use natural methods of repellent against plant pests rather that using chemicals.
The following information will help to explain which plants repel certain insects.
Garlic - Garlic repels many types of pests. It helps keep your roses safe, and will also keep mosquitoes away. If you plant garlic in your garden and lawn, you will be very surprised at how quickly your bug problem goes away. Garlic chives is an alternative that works similarly.
Onions - The strong smell of onions repels the same basic types of insects as garlic (meaning most insects). It is a good alternative to planting garlic.
