Why You Should Worry About Prostate Problems

by Mike Gardener

I spend time being concerned about all sorts of things. My finances are always a worry and my job prospects concern me but the most important thing is my health. We may disregard our health when we are young but as we get older we become more aware of our bodies and the problems thay can suffer. For men of a certain age, the prostate is, or should be, a concern.

I am constantly surprised that male friends know so little about the prostate. Most women have some knowledge about breast cancer and want to learn about it but men ignore the prostate and seem to prefer not to know even though it is a purely male problem and can usually be effectively treated when problems are discovered in the early stages.

For some reason men do not seem to discus medical matters in the same way that women do. Why that is, is difficult to understand since discussion of just this one subject of the prostate gland would no doubt save lives by making men more aware of potential prostate health problems.

All Natural Pain Management Techniques

by Anne Woodland

Everyone will suffer pain at some point in their lives and strange as it may sound, some pain is necessary; it’s a signal from our brain that something is wrong which we need to address to protect our health and well-being. Pain can come from any type of injury, illness or condition but it is then our job to locate where the pain is originating from to stop it. Normally once the cause of the pain is treated, the pain will gradually disappear but not always.

Many of us have experienced this to a degree when we suffer a headache or a migraine but it also refers to conditions like arthritis and back pain. Around the world, many people live with chronic pain throughout their lives and it can happen at anytime for almost any reason. Often the cause of chronic pain is actually cured but the nerves still believe the condition is still present and the pain will often become the condition itself.

Do Sunbeds Cause Cancer ?

by Adrian Fletcher

It seems that it was only in the middle of the last century that having a tan became desirable. Up until this point, people did not see tanned skin as a positive look but more than likely an indication that the person worked outdoors and was exposed to too much sunlight.

As prosperity became more tangible to people in the middle of the last century, having a lifestyle became more of a reality. The idea of leisure time was invented. People would dedicate time to going to the beach and spending time outdoors for relaxation. They had money to spend on vacations, often traveling to sunnier climates.

Indeed, in a short space of time, having an all over tan became symbolic of an affluent and healthy lifestyle. People would go to the beach just to get a suntan. It became an end in itself. Sunbathing was an activity.

People wanted a permanent all over tan, regardless of the seasons. Other people wanted to get a tan before they went to a sunny climate for their annual vacation. Pretty soon the idea of the sunbed evolved.

Alternative Health Practices Growing Popularity

by Anne Woodland

More and more people are turning to alternate therapies today. Whereas, integrated therapies combine mainstream medical treatments with complementary or alternative therapies, for which some high-quality scientific evidence of safety and efficacy now exists. The alternative therapies are known to provide certain types of services that aren’t available within conventional medicine. Alternative therapies that you could try would be naturopathy, massages, homeopathy, diets, faith healing, music therapy, folk medicine and the like. It is the belief that these therapies will have some curative effect on the disease that leads to the use of therapies over conventional medicine.

Quality of life and general health improves with alternative health therapies. Reducing stress, tension, sleeplessness, anxiety, depression and making you feel more relaxed. They can even help to reduce the symptoms of cancer, such as pain, feeling sick, breathlessness, constipation, diarrhea, tiredness and poor appetite as well as help to moderate some of the side effects of traditional cancer treatment.

What Is The Cause Of Skin Cancer

by Adrian Fletcher

Like all cancers, skin cancer is caused when the cells are exposed to some external environmental condition. This causes the cells, or more specifically the genes in the cell to mutate and become known as a oncogene. An oncogene promotes tumor growth.

Two of the main problems with preventing and treating cancer is that it is not always clear what the external environmental condition is that causes the cancer and being able to detect the tumor growth before it becomes hard to treat. In the case of skin cancer it is generally agreed that exposure to ultraviolet radiation (UV rays) is the environmental condition. And in most cases, the cancer is on the surface of the skin so can be detected quickly. The most common form of UV rays that people are exposed to are in sunlight.

However, some people can spend more time in the sun than others without developing skin cancer. Their skin is not as sensitive to the sun. This is because they have more melanin in the body. Amongst many other functions, melanin makes the skin go brown when exposed to the Sun. This is the body’s natural method of protecting skin cells. This is the tan that many people like to develop as they see it as an indication of health and vitality.
