The meaning of skid lid is as follows: crash helmet. This is a helmet that is worn by people that ride either motorcycles or bicycles. There is padding built in on these helmets to give true safety to the head. As far as what the makers of helmets call s a skid lid though they are found in the shorty group of helmets.
There is an ongoing dispute going on as far as whether motorcyclists should be required to wear helmets. Some bikers say they should be able to pick whether or not they want to take the risk and wear helmets. Other bikers do no dispute this fact and would much rather have the extra protection for their heads in case of an accident. We only have the one brain to keep us thinking so we best make sure it stays in tact.
If we just talk about the term skid lid as defined as a crash helmet than you can find many numerous brands and models of helmets. Some people prefer the full-face full head coverage of the full-face helmet. Some bikers would rather have the more open model actually called the open face. These do have high safety ratings from the DOT and Snell. Motocross helmets also have the safety approval from these organizations. There also made for the specific use of motocross. Now if you are just going to put on a show and go at very low speeds there is a helmet called novelty helmet that does not have safety ratings.
The 1800’s is when it is believed that the first helmets came into being for use by the bicyclists. These were riders of the high wheel bicycles. They were receiving head injuries, which made them find a solution. They took pith and made helmets. It was perhaps the most favorable material of the day even though pith did smash. With no cars zooming around back then though the bicycle riders only had to be protected from thumping on the ground when they fell. With the cars of today to be concerned it is a good thing helmets are made from other things.
A lot of the bikers love the thrill of riding motorcycles. These bikers do it just for the thrill and pleasure. Sometimes feeling like one with nature is sited for why they ride due to the fact that you just have the open air around you when riding. Groups unite over motorcycles and ride together sometimes they have to do with raising money for a good cause, some just celebrate the brand of motorcycle owned. Women meet and ride together for the girl talk in between.
As expensive as cars are why not think about a motorcycle instead? They are a lot cheaper than cars to buy but not necessarily to maintain though. With the huge amount of money that we all have to spend on gas motorcycles are quite thrifty in this area. If the prices at the gas pumps keep going to such heights maybe all of us should ride motorcycles.
The real daredevils of the motorcycle world love to do motocross. These daredevils are smart enough to know they have to be outfitted right which includes a motocross helmet or skid lid specially designed for the sport. On motocross you even have ramps that you travel on and sometimes jump and flip with. Yes I would say motocross riders absolutely positively should wear a helmet.
Authorities always suggest and sometimes require a helmet being worn. Check your local laws as far if it is required. Safety wise you are always much more safeguarded with a helmet than without one. Now these helmets or skid lid whichever you like to name them come in all shapes, models, and even colors and other features. Whichever you choose to wear put on your helmet and get on that motorcycle and have safe fun riding your favorite motorcycle.
